My work on ADA & Universal Design projects includes:
  • Retrofits for ADA Compliance
  • Lift & elevator design & implementation
  • Universal Design

Central to my design philosophy is awareness of the principles of 'universal design' - environments that maximize use for people of all ages and abilities. This goes well beyond the minimum requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which applies only to public accommodations, and may include level building entries, main level bed & bath, 48" hallways, provisions for elevator installations, cabinet placement.

Although I have consulted and designed for ADA compliance, Universal Design is rapidly becoming a separate sub-specialty of my practice. For both new construction and remodels, homeowners and commercial property owners benefit from design that allows for aging-in-place without future adaptation or extra costs - a principal I apply to all my projects.

I have also recently partnered with J.T. Lawrence Company, a leading distributor of vertical lift and elevator equipment throughout California, to provide an integrated design-build entity for any project that requires mechanical lift equipment.
